Description

CLARITIN (Loratadine) 10 mg: 24-hour allergy relief

CLARITIN contains loratadine 10 mg, a long-acting antihistamine. It relieves the symptoms of hay fever and other upper respiratory allergies, and itching from hives, with one tablet a day. Most people don’t feel drowsy with loratadine, which makes it a popular choice for daytime use.

What it helps with

  • Sneezing and runny nose
  • Itchy, watery eyes
  • Itchy nose or throat
  • Itching and rash from hives

How it works

When you come into contact with pollen, dust mites, pet dander or mould, your body releases histamine, which causes allergy symptoms. Loratadine blocks histamine at H1 receptors, easing symptoms for about 24 hours.

How to take it

  • Adults and children 6 years and over: 1 tablet (10 mg) once a day. Don’t take more than 1 tablet in 24 hours.
  • Children under 6: ask a doctor.
  • Take it with or without food, at about the same time each day.
  • If you have liver or kidney disease, ask a doctor before use. You may need a different dose.

Possible side effects

Loratadine is usually well tolerated. Some people get a headache, dry mouth, tiredness or mild drowsiness. Taking more than directed may cause drowsiness.

Warnings

  • Don’t use if you’ve had an allergic reaction to loratadine or desloratadine.
  • Hives can rarely be part of a serious allergic reaction. Get emergency help if hives come with trouble breathing, swelling of the tongue or lips, wheezing, dizziness or fainting.
  • Ask a doctor before use if you have hives that are unusual in colour, bruised or blistered, or that don’t itch.
  • Stop use and ask a doctor if symptoms don’t improve within 3 days (hives) or if an allergic reaction occurs.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, ask a healthcare professional before use.
